I was hired by a professional photographer to design and develop a website for her. This website would serve as her personal brand, where she can showcase her work & be contacted for work. Together with my client we went through several stages in order to come to the final result.
The process stages included discovery/strategy, content, design, development and handover.
Based on our discovery session, I created the brief. The client wanted her website to portray a quiet place, and she also used the terms "mysteries, heavy but calm." The overall style she was looking for was clean and moody, with a melancholy undertone.
This was beneficial to me since I could subsequently utilize it when designing the art and brand direction.
Goals of the website:
- to have a gallery website
- to increase awareness about Georgia's photography
- to generate leads
- to make sales
Have a clear goal was necessary in order to inform my design choice about what to include in this website.
For the general look and feel the important factor was to focus on clean, calm and minimalistic design.
Since the most important factor is minimalistic design here, I suggested to follow a one page structure for this website. Moreover there are only 4 sections - home, gallery, about & contact.
Here I will show my initial design ideas through a wireframe.
From here on I started the process with an early wireframes, sketched on paper so we can have an easy discussion with my client and an early approval of the direction of layout.
For the style direction I created a couple of motives that give the melancholic undertone. I showed this board to my client in order to discuss which of the 3 options we should go for.
In order to show my client the direction we picked, as well as the colors and typography I created a higher fidelity wireframes, compared to the first ones. This shows to my client a bit more context so they can better understand the design.
After discussing the wireframes, we selected the second option. From them on I started developing the website in webflow.
The best name of a personal website is name of the owner. In this case it is Georgia. All her friends call her GG. She also was thinking of the name Georgia Captures. I used these two ideas to come up with logo designs for her. In the image on the right I’ve shown my exploration of different combinations of the letters GG or GC. Keeping the minimalism in mind I wanted the logo to look very professional but simple.
